Product FAQs

What aquarium should I buy?

If you have been thinking about buying an aquarium for your home make sure you have enough space for the aquarium to go.

We have a large range of aquariums in store and online for you to choose from and all at very reasonable prices.

Do your hardy plants come with a guarantee?

All our hardy plants come with a two year guarantee so you can buy in confidence.

My fish have White Spot what can I do?

White Spot is caused by a parasite called Lchthyophthirus Multifiliis they are quite visable on the body and fins of all fish. White Spot can be effectively treated, treat the whole tank using a proprietary white spot cure, follow the instructions carefully for the correct dosage to be added.

How often should I carry out water changes?

Water changes should be carried out on a regular basis, every two weeks a 30-50% water change should be carried out, by purchasing a gravel cleaner it is more easier to clean the gravel and do a water change at the same time. By doing this you will be siphoning any harmful waste from the gravel; not doing a gravel clean can cause high levels of ammonia and nitrate which becomes harmful to the tank conditions.

What's the difference between natural and concrete slabs?

The natural stone we sell is normally Sandstone or Limestone and is extremely hardwearing and normally has a range of shades within each colour. Natural stone can now be a cheap alternative to concrete slabs and our Sandstone is available at reasonable prices!

Concrete slabs are uniform in colour and thickness and have a wide variety of features that accompany basic slabs, there is a massive variety of styles and colours and are relatively well priced.

Are your pots and ornaments frost resistant?

Everything we buy is frost resistant, some of our pots have a 50 year guarantee!

When is the best time to lay turf?

Turf is best laid in late winter/early spring when the ground has not dried out and the growing season is approaching. They can be laid later in spring through to late summer but they will need more attention to ensure that they do not dry out.

What type of treatment should I use to treat my fence or shed?

Oil based treatments are superior to water based as they penetrate the timber, water based treatments are prone to run-off and can give a patchy undesirable appearance.

What type of guarantee do your timber products have?

A lot of our Forest range have a 15 year guarantee against rot. Most of our products are pressure inpregnated which means they need less treating that inferior dip treated products.

I'd like a greenhouse but my garden is tiny...

We have a huge selection of lean to greenhouses, and 4'x4' freestanding greenhouses. Also, we have smaller 3, 4 and 5 tiered greenhouses which are great for potting on and giving seeds an early start.

When can I plant out my bedding plants? i.e. Geraniums, Busy Lizzies, Petunias, etc

We recommend that the middle to end of May should be ok as frosts should have ended by then. This is only a recommendation as weather can be unpredictable and we have had frosts in June before.
